Hot hot hot security issue

Original posted on http://blogs.technet.com/canitpro by Rodney Buike

http://blogs.technet.com/canitpro/archive/2008/07/25/is-your-dns-patched.aspx

Is Your DNS Patched?

In case you have been living under a rock for the past month you have most likely heard about the DNS cache exploit recently discovered by Dan Kaminsky. This might be one of the most severe flaws discovered as it was cross platform affecting everything from Windows to Linux, UNIX, Cisco IOS etc.... It was so big in fact that all the major vendors worked together to get the patch issued on the same day. The flaw would allow an attacker to insert a malicious DNS record into the cache. As an end user you type in www.technet.com and rather than get the proper IP address the cache delivers the malicious IP address sending you to ???? You can find out more on the details of the flaw at Dan's blog.

You should also make sure that you are patched. Make sure that your upstream ISP DNS servers are patched by calling them or using Dan's DNS Checker at the top of his website.

So why all of a sudden a rush to ensure you are patched? Well the patches issued by the vendors have been reverse engineered and exploit code has been published! Dan has said many times that this is an extremely easy to launch exploit that could be implemented in seconds.

MS08-037 - Vulnerabilities in DNS Could Allow Spoofing (953230)

KB953230 - Vulnerabilities in DNS could allow spoofing

Go. Read. Patch. Now.

And when you are done, copy and paste this blog post to your blog, email it to your IT Pro buddies, get the word out!

If you have links to the patches from other vendors, please leave a comment with the URL!

And there was no discontent or unhappy users (or managers) because Goldynet had their access completely
stripped and had them mysteriously fired the next day.
So Goldynet, being bored, decided to completely wipe out the operating from scratch and test all the backup and restores.
Now being a very smart and power network Administrator, Goldynet had written all of this in Powershell scripts, and thus could just sit about and wait while everthing just
magically reinstalled itself.
Now of course, Goldynet, being that he (hey we didn't actually say Goldynet was a woman did we, oh you silly people! Naughty naughty silly people!) HE was absolutely bored
stiff. So Goldynet decided it was high time and very good to start some exploring! Yes adventure!
Now everytime Goldynet was in the office, the developers were in their little magic land. They were not happy people they saw Goldynet and would wag their and say "Go away! Go
away! You are restricting our access! Go away! This is our private land!"
So naturally, being a polite (and very sneaky!) Network Administrator, Goldynet avoided the developers magic room. Because it had that sign that said "KEEP OUT, DEVELOPERS
ONLY. DO NOT ENTER OR YOU WILL BE EATEN BY A GRUE"
Goldynet didn't like the thought of being eaten by a grue. But tonight, Goldynet, noticed that the sign fell off. So since the sign suggested not to enter the FLOOR as per say
(which was a silly thought anyhow) Goldynet, used her magic all door lock opening key (100 LB SLEDGE HAMMER) and opened the door to the developers office.
Now Goldynet was completely and utterly bored and very curious. And had complete and utter access to the entire swarm of operating system features. That and Goldynet was
drunk. What else do you do at 2:00am with a reinstalling network cluster and restoring backups of exabytes of data?
So now have a situation involving a drunken network adminstrator, who's very smart, very bored and very very very mischieovus.
And three completely and helpless development systems.
So the first computer was HUGE and SUPER POWERFUL. But it didn't have anything really fun to play with. Because the senior developer was a smart person, and kept all of his
personal data and applications on his encrypted memory key. His platform was actually rather only of interest to developers. So Goldynet looked about, played with the
machine and moved on to the next computer.
The next computer was even more powerful. But it was full of Beta software, which wouldn't properly interact with all the fun stuff on the network. It had some games to play,
with but they were in Beta test, so the games kept crashing. So Goldynet went on to the next computer
The third computer was just right. Plenty of space and power because it was owned by the little little little baby recruit. The little baby recruit was given a powerful
computer to entice him. However, the little baby recruit was also busy filling the computer with games of wonder and mp3's and filthy filthy wonderful filthy movies. So
Goldynet, of course naturally played with this computer the most. Then of course naturally completely backed it all up and and replaced the computers guts with a Commodore 64
inside.
So Goldynet, feeling all inspired and hungry after all of this play looked about for something to eat.
Now the Senior Developer had a boxed lunch, it was full of nasty healthy things in it. Goldynet took a bite and spat it on the keyboard "YUCK LETTUCE! HORRID STUFF!"
The Beta tester had a least a Soda and a sandwich but the Soda was Diet Flavoured and the sandwich was all anchovies. "BLEACH! BLAAAAAAAH!" Goldynet screamed and threw it
against the wall. HORRID stuff!
Now the little little baby recruit had a box full of meaty pizza and a two four of beer hidden under the desk. So of course, naturally Goldynet decided to eat it all. And of
course, as a courtesy, finished up all the beer.
Naughty naughty Goldynet.
Now after all of eating and playing, Goldynet was quite tired. So first off, she tried the Senior Developers chair. But it was far too hard because the senior developer just
wouldn't down, being a busy person.
Then Goldynet tried the Beta testers chair. However the Beta testers chair was all worn out and full of spiky things to poke into the beta when things went wrong.
Then Goldynet looked and found a fully extendable sofa bed laid out for the little little little baby recruit, since the little baby recruit was being so gently taken care of.
And so of course, completely full and tired and drunken. Goldynet crashed out UNDER the couch, which of course makes absolutely no sense. But's it my story so go away.... Keep
your opinions out of my story.
Now it's 6:00am in the morning and the three developers, having just left the land of Drinky drinky, arrived to work.
The first thing they noticed was the large hole in the door. Oh my! Who could have done such a thing.
The next thing they noticed was the rather disorganized state of their magic office.
"Somebody's been playing with MY COMPUTER" said the senior developer
"Somebody' been playing with MY COMPUTER and pooped in the application pool!" said the Beta tester
"AND SOMEBODY'S BEEN PLAYING WITH MY COMPUTER AND ERASED ALL MY POR..... HEY HOW COME IT HAS A BLUE SCREEN WITH 38911 Bytes FREE?" Said the little little baby recruit
Then they noticed their lunches.
"SOMEBODY'S been eating my lunch!" Said the senior developer
"SOMEBODY'S been eating my lunch and threw it all over the floor!" Said the beta tester
".... and SOMEBODY's ate my lunch and drank all my BEE..... I mean my MILK" cried the little little baby recruit.
... OH MY!
Then they looked. The chairs.
"SOMEBODY SAT IN MY CHAIR! And it REEEEKS!" Said the senior developer
"SOMEBODY SAT IN MY CHAIR and bent the poky spikes in it " Said the beta tester
"And somebody opened my big comfy sofa couch and is nowhere to be found..." Said the little little baby recruit.
... And then Goldynet Groaned a terrible groan and let out a terrible amount of methane (what with all the Pizza and Beer and anchovies?!? What would you expect?!)
The sound terrified the three developers as they leapt back as the the giant sofa came to life (or more Goldynet, being a very fat Network Admistrator stood up taking the couch
with him.
And so the three developers ran for the very lives from the terrifying Sofa bed monster who must eaten up all the food and computers and destroyed the chairs and made the big
hole in the door. I mean isn't that what sofa bed monsters do?
And so of course Goldynet, under the cover of being a giant Sofa bed monster, crept or more klumped or stumbled back into his office and doctored all the security tapes to make
it look like the developers had broken their own in a drunken stupor.
and so... only GOLDYNET lived happily ever after
The end.<img UP from Microsoft

Hey! I never knew about this. I just got an email MSDN was sending out. I always get these because I think it's good to have lots of little bits of information in front of you. Sometimes it's presently useful, sometimes it isn't. But you NEVER know what will come your way.
THIS ONE WAS COOL!
I didn't know Microsoft has a program called RampUP. I guess the simplest way to think of it is to get developers up to the next level, wherever they're at. Even older developers / coders. Even just people THINKING about getting into programming on some level.
And you know for me? THIS IS PERFECT!
Are you like me? Trained in programming in older languages? Haven't really had a chance to get into the new since you're too busy?
Or maybe you're already there trying to see where your career can get you, or need to learn something new.
Or for whatever reason, your a sick twisted individual whose an IT Pro that might want to LOOK into developing and coding because your job might call for it, even a little bit.
Then check out RampUP.
I don't know if there is any REAL costs involved myself but it's certainly interesting. There is a plethora of resources online to check out and it's amazing how well organized this whole pile is!
Go there. Go there now. It costs nothing to look. And I think there is even some free courseware articles online.
RampUP. Who knows. Maybe you'll take away some poor Microsoft guy's job when you're done... :)<img Y2K Podcast - Original reproduced

http://landofsilly.mypodcast.com/2008/07/the_Dragon_Y2K-124229.html
the Dragon Y2K
Once upon a high end query, while I sat weak eyed and bleary,
Staring at a large and oversized Information store,
I felt myself a snoozing, but not a result of boozing,
As dreams felt floating, floating to a quieter shore,
But I bolted up blinking, blinking at a screen that was winking
Making me forget quickly about some magical land or lore
But A time I do remember, A dark and fateful past December,
When times were grim and people were feeling down
A cry went to the street, a pounding of the feet
"Too few numbers they did use!" said the many with a frown
Their eyes popped wide open, the industry has spoken
The Beast was about to crawl out and show its face to the town
This problem must not linger, and with a blasting of the finger
Many a coder was brought forth from forgotten past
COBOL code was dug back out, "An EXTRA TWO" they did shout,
Lines were rewritten in a flurry from the first to the last
Hollerith readers were brought in, to re-read the ancient sin,
Created by coders who who's own code they did not outlast.
But the ancients were heard to find, and companies were in a bind,
"Hire those that will" and we will make it worth their while
And so the schools shoved out, many a talented and helpless lout
"Code or DIE" they screamed as they thrown upon the pile
And with a shrieking of the masses, as they exited their classes
The gathered slowly to the dreaded COBOL Isle
And so the task began, for it was a simple plan.
Change from two to four and recompile it at the end
And then the problems came to all, With this task we may fall
For it was not just COBOL code that was hit with this bend
Pascal, Forth and Basic too, twas like opening up a zoo
The problems came forth and more they had to mend
And then the nightmare grew, the many were not few
For they dug into other problems that were not seen
VCR's and Airplanes were checked, sometimes things turned out wrecked
For they were also from times that'd been
Car computers "Please no way", Other things they could not say
But the dragon Y2K crawled it's way out to the scene
And so the battle came, our goals were all the same
For one short moment peace seemed a possible goal
For we were united as one, in this twisted mirky fun
To take up the swords and take down the beasts role
Quoth the world stand away, we will smite down Y2K
and soon we shall spit it remains to a bowl
A Great united cause, for nobody would ever pause
to allow this creature to become free
Company bonuses did ensue and Incentives from Governments flew
to strike down the power of this creature from ancient "C"
Old systems were thrown out, to fight these evil lout
Cascades and upgrades were performed to have the dragon flee.
The battle continued on, our time was almost gone
to eliminate the fouls we once did make and play
The coders were a quivering, the people were a shivering
Time was coming soon, we may all go away
The beast it sat there grinning, for it would soon be winning,
"Fear me now, for I am the dragon Y2K"
The Dragon licked it lips, the people had many slips
and falls as they tried to fight it down
Missiles launched without trying, as their time they thought was flying
as many more glitches and errors made us frown
But the dragon sat there with a smile, an evil grin to cover the while
It's stomach grumbled in anticipation as it moved towards the town.
The coders said "Do or DIE", It became there battle cry
for they would not go down without a fight
The Dragon let it shout, it would not let them out
For this time was its own, it would let fire in the night
Microsoft and IBM, Apple TOO became friends
to strike down this unseemly blight
But Commodores did still exist, within our very midst,
old Apples, Tandys and Osbornes were still alive and well
And the programs they still went, thought many of the systems were spent
processors and memory worn out long before the nell
So nobody thought twice, to correct that silly vice
Data was brought over, systems rewritten, their hearts dropped in the well
The beast was snarling loudly, it snapped it jaws so proudly
It roared its head to the very sky
Fear me now your time is short, I shall have you all soon for sport
The dragon Y2K snapped its jaws and began to fly
It's claws they were a gleaming, and in truth it was a seeming
That soon, our time on this planet would be nigh
Stories they began to float, reporters told and wrote
of terrifying sights that would happen during that day
Planes and satellites would be falling, the Russians would be calling
to warn of of the dangers and creatures about to play
The world it was ending, and our sins though they were mending
were about to claim us all on the night of Y2K
Friends and familys joined as one, Let's all just have some fun
Old enemies were forgiven this short time
For in this night if were are wrong, what is the problem with some song
For in this world, happiness cannot be a crime
And so for a short bit, nobody yelled or had a fit
About petty things before that death bell would chime
But the dragon yelled to all, for soon you will fall
to the errors created in your own way
I will fly to town and sea, my presence it will be
forever written in books and not forgotten today
For I am the mighty creature, in films they did feature
The dreaded, vicious and might dragon Y2K.
So we hid inside our home, Better to be alive and not alone
Sat down upon a chair to ponder our plight
The night it was not pleasing, for the beast it was teasing,
taunting me of that dreaded wight
I hugged my children, kissed my life, prayed to God to spare their life
Sat huddled in a corner to wait through this terrible night.
Sleep it did happen, But wait, what is this? This morning I did not miss!
I woke up to see the very lovely day!
Sun is gleaming, birds are singing, the church bells are dinging.
The dragon it seems did NOT come out to play
Time is here, a new day shows, The wind it gently blows,
And to the dragon I cry "Screw you Y2K!"<img src="http://c.services.spaces.live.com/CollectionWebService/c.gif?cid=-7696768537466768567&page=RSS%3a+Dragon+Y2K+Podcast+-+Original+reproduced&referrer=" width="1px" I recently upgraded my program from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0 and found that the new program began unexpected Child Processing and also took up a lot of space and valuable resources.

This wasn't mentioned in the product brochure. In addition Wife 1.0 installs itself into all other programs and launches during systems initialization and then it monitors all other system activities.

Applications such as 'Boys' Night out 2.5' and 'Golf 5.3' no longer run, and crashes the system whenever selected. Attempting to operate selected 'Saturday Rugby 6.3' always fails and Saturday Shopping 7.1' runs instead.

I cannot seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background whilst attempting to run any of my favourite applications. Be it online or offline.

I am thinking of going back to 'Girlfriend 7.0', but uninstall doesn't work on this program. Can you please help?

... AND THIS IS WHAT OUR ANALYST SAID:

Dear Customer,

This is a very common problem resulting from a basic misunderstanding of the functions of the Wife 1.0 program. Many customers upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to
Wife 1.0 thinking that Wife 1.0 is merely a UTILITY AND ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM.

Actually, Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM designed by its Creator to run everything on your current platform.

You are unlikely to be able to purge Wife 1.0 and still convert back to Girlfriend 7.0, as Wife 1.0 was not designed to do this and it is impossible to uninstall, delete or purge the program files from the System once it is installed.

Some people have tried to install Girlfriend 8.0 or Wife 2.0 but have ended up with even more problems.

(See manual under Alimony/Child Support and Solicitors' Fees).

Having Wife 1.0 installed, I recommend you keep it Installed and deal with the difficulties as best as you can. When any faults or problems occur, whatever you think has caused them, you must run the.........

C:\ APOLOGIZE\ FORGIVE ME.EXE Program and avoid attempting to use the *Esc-Key for it will freeze the entire system.

It may be necessary to run C:\ APOLOGIZE\ FORGIVE ME.EXE a number of times, and eventually hope that the operating system will return to normal.

Wife 1.0, although a very high maintenance programme, can be very rewarding.

To get the most out of it, consider buying additional Software such as 'Flowers 2.0' and 'Chocolates 5.0' or 'HUGS\ KISSES 600.0' or 'TENDERNESS\ UNDERSTANDING
1000.0' or even Eating out without the Kids 7.2.1' (if Child processing has already started).

DO NOT under any circumstances install 'Secretary 2.1' (Short Skirt Version) or 'One Nightstand 3.2' (Any Mood Version), as this is not a supported Application for Wife 1.0 and the system will almost certainly CRASH.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-06-17T03:49:07Z</dcterms:modified>

Nerd Test - Try it. It's that one morning. That one morning of blessed peace and quiet he can call his own.

That one simple day he can sleep in. Silence. Golden silence.

*BANG* *KLUNK*

"Shhhhhhhhhh! You're going to wake up Dad!"

"You can't use that for pancake mix!"

"Hey! I was going to make the bacon! Put that down!"

"Gross! The dog licked it."

Dad shuffles in his slumber. "Go away noise." he thinks to himself. This is Fathers Day. Noise not allowed. Big rule.

Funny thing about noise and noise makers. They don't know how to read rules. 'specially Dad Rules.

"Put that away, it'll catch fire!"

"Ewwwwwwwww!"

"You know, bacon isn't supposed to be THAT colour!"

"What's that smell?"

Mom lays quietly undisturbed by the downstairs commotion. Mom has a special shield attached her ears. The unique "I hear this everyday and can't hear it now" shield.

Dad tries to learn from Mom. But Dad's been working. He puts the pillow over his head to hide from the suspected onslaught.

"Hey don't use that, the cat was sniffing it!"

"Quick, hurry up before the dog gets to that it again."

Smells are working their way upstairs. Quietly and slowly. Some are good. Yes nice delicious breakfasty smells.

And some, Dad can't quite identify. On any level. They are TRULY unique smells.

The smells waft deeper into his senses. Dad is getting two unique reactions now.

The first of course is "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm...... BREAKFAST!" (drool is crawling from Dad's lips with this thought)

The second, and more mysterious is... well... Just WHAT is that second set of smells and WHY has he never smelt them before?!

But the first thought takes a bit boot and kick's the second one in the rear end. This is Father's day. To heck with that second thought today.

So Dad manages to lay down and konk out for an hour longer. Peace. Yes peace will happen today. Without effort. Without trial. Without thought. Blessed thoughts permeate through that simple time. For a moment. Dad dreams.

The dream roams in and crafts a life of it's own. Dad finds himself fishing quietly on a lake with no noise. That boat becomes a plane, which turns into a rocket ship. Suddenly Dad is a superhero knocking down bad guys. The superhero is a race car driver. The race car driver is suddenly bringing about peace to others. Suddenly he wins money and brings his family to a better life. Suddenly he is a time traveler, visiting his long last younger self. Telling himself how to avoid the mistakes of the future.

And slipping in some lottery numbers for good measure.

The dream ripples and echoes. Thoughts and visions float through his head. The answer to world peac.....

*BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP*

(The feet tear up the stairs)

"HEY DAD!!"

"WE MADE YOU BREAKFAST!"

"HAPPY FATHER'S DAY"

Dad's eyes cry for a simple moment to ignore the happy voices. Just for a moment. Then of course Dad tells the eyes to shut up.

The eyes listen to Dad and open. Three beaming faces covered in soot, toast, grease, pancake batter and what appears to be some fur stare down at him smiling.

Ignoring all thoughts Dad glances, forcing a smile at the smorgasbord (or regurgitated surprise) that has appeared before him. Laying in front of Dad is a large cover to a Bin from the basement. It is covered in plates and some brown liquid spilled from a cup that appears to contain something somewhat resembling coffee. Half pink half black bacon, seven eggs of completely unique colours. Toast that appears to have some dog fur on it. Coffee that smells suspiciously like motor oil and salt. Pancakes that aren't quite shapes or smells that can be identified.

"WELL TRY IT! WE MADE IT! WE MADE YOU BREAKFAST IN BED!"

Mom is awake now and smiling. Mother's Day was just before and she is smiling. Smiling since she knows better than Dad what has to happen. It's Dad's turn.

Dad takes a bite of the least dangerous looking part of the plate. Bacon. A big chunk of blackened bacon.

*CHOMP*

Half of Dad's wisdom tooth looks up as if to say "What were you thinking!" and yelps back in complaint. Dad ignores it and continues to chomp down.

A fork attacks part of an egg and makes it quickly disappear. Dad's stomach has other things to say about that egg. But again. "Bugger off stomach!" Dad thinks to himself.

Ahh, the pancakes. They can't be THAT bad. Dad begins to slice one with a fork.

It won't slice.

"Ahhhh well done, just the way I like them." Dad mumbles and gets the readily available steak knife to slice into it.

A full minute later Dad has a slice of pancake on the fork. Well not quite on.

More supported between the fork and the knife since the fork wouldn't penetrate the pancake.

Dad puts the slice into his mouth. Tastes suspiciously like Sheetrock. Not quite sure WHY Dad knows what sheetrock tastes like. But that was the taste.

A readily provided napkin to wipe his mouth, and Dad sneaks away the sheetrock pancake. "Mmmmmm...." is all they hear, and see.

He's sips of gasp of the 10W-30 Coffee and forces it down. He swallows and gets a smile on his face and puts upon the greatest act ever.

"Why, " he pauses and mulls trying to keep it all down. "That was the most delicious breakfast ever!"

Hugs dive into Dad. From Mom too. For him being such a trooper.

The cooks march out of the room proudly, singing of the great thing they pulled off for Dad.

Soon the chefs have left, Dad is feeling a little full, or maybe ill. The motor oil salt coffee was muddling his thought process. Mom knowing what Dad is thinking, passes a bottle of Pepto Bismal and Antacid tablets; along with a clear glass of water. A peck on his cheek.

"Happy Father's Day honey."

The breakfast would settle by lunch. And a bottle of Seltzer would settle the rest.

Father's Day is here and the day will be good. A quiet day of whatever will happen and will be.

To all Father's out there that are, and all Father's out there that will be.

Happy Father's Day. The best is yet to come.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-06-15T19:35:02Z</dcterms:modified>

Confessions of a Computer Geek - Audio version - Podcast

Finally put it to audio. My first attempt at podcast.

The DarkSide of the geek.

It is an early morning.

Standing within the hallowed Halls of Microsoft is an odd group. Crossing many races, religions and creeds. The Influencers.

Resplendant in their simple tattered robes they listen quietly deeply meditating on words of wisdom being passed down by the Lords of Microsoft.

"The ways of the geek have a powerful influence on the weak minded...." intoned a hooded figure at the front of the room. "Allow me to demonstrate."

The gathering of simple monk like denizens followed the hooded one. They came to an entrance locked and guarded. The hooded one looked down.

A simple wave of its hand "*you*don't*need*to*see*my*security*pass*".

"Whatever." he responded and the door opened.

A mumbling of the crowd. Sounds of "Master" and "Impressive" could be heard echoing without.

They passed into the chamber and sat upon the ground cross legged. The hooded one continued.

"The ways of the geek can used to influence objects as well. Note this non-functional network..."

They look and see a room of cursing users swearing. The hood one intones. "Stretch out... Seeeeek the problem....feel the error...."

Moments later a quick call on the Smartphone. "Yes. Cubicle 14, 3rd floor. You will find a damaged Lan cable and a copy of Limewire..."

Much nodding and approvement from the gaggle of seated ones.

"Yes the ways of the geek are powerful indeed. It can be a strong force for good."

"....or Evil?!..." piped up a crackly gerbilized squeaky voice.

As if on cue, the circuit breaker tripped cutting out the lights. A hush fell over the room.

The hooded one spun about arms cast wide. "WHO SAID THAT?!"

A recently seated figure, eyes glowing bloodshot red from too little sleep and too much coffee, leapt up. It was Mr. Trouble. His eyelashes replaced by glowing fibre optics for effect.

"*YOU!*" spat the hooded one. "*This place is not for you*"

"Yessss old masssster..." hissed the bad ripoff of a certain 'Ring' trilogy. "I haft returrrrrned. It isssss time for you to sssstep down."

A hum. A click. A hum. A click.

Mr. Trouble looks at the presently useless weapon in his hand. "Damn! Forgot to charge it overnight!" He whips it at the hooded figure while pulling out a StarTrek phaser.

*klik* *klik* *klik*

"Damn eBay! They sssssaid it worked!" Cursed Mr. Trouble.

The hooded figure looks up at ceiling as if to say "Why me?" It gestures quietly to the rest to apprehend Mr. Trouble.

Suddenly realizing he's out of options, he releases a sound of pure anguish. A cry to send banshees running in terror. A noise so horrid, horses would cut their own heads off to not hear it.

Very loud, high pitched and off key the sound from the internet returned. "I'm using Powershell!"

The many cringed at the horrid offkey and offbeat singing. They covered their ears to protect themselves.

"I'm using Powershell....."

Birds leapt to their own death to hide from the sound.

But the hooded one sat unphased. Nerves of steel he seemed to have.

"I'M USING POWERSHELL!!!" the shrill increased as glass began shattering.

Bodies were writhing in agony on the ground. "Make it stop! Make it stop!" and "My ears!" were constantly being heard.

The hooded figure stood. A tower of serenity against the darkness. Tapping it's foot impatiently.

"I'M USING .... *huff* ....*huff* .... I'M...*gasp*"

The caffeine fit complete, Mr. Trouble collapsed to the ground. The noise gone, the many influencers in their tattered cloaks recovered. Looking up they saw the hooded cloak pulled back revealing Lord Damir sporting a very nice set of earplugs.

"You see my young ones, sometimes a simple solution is best." as he removed the earplugs.

Sung to Sweet Leaf by Ozzy Osborne. Idea conceived by Jean-Luc David of Microsoft and his "Ozzy Ninja" comment... :)

So crank out the tunes while you crank out the code.

"CODE NINJA"

Shout it out yeah!

See my modules!

I am Code Ninja, I hack away
Steel Hot Code Ninja, look as I play
You cry out helpless, and I will show
Light to your problems, watch them all go

Run C Run

Procs, Modules, my life is compiled.

Your apps they core dumped, I hear you cry
Watch me drop in now, black in the sky
I sense the problem, I wave my hand
A semicolon! Makes it all stand.

In the night, slicing code

Memory leaks and looping, inefficient code
Undeclared variables, system overload
Overloaded stacks now, ruin your day
Just call Code Ninja, and watch me play

Machine code yeah!

Codin' time

Proc me

Compile it yeah

Airtight, so clean

Come on call out the Code Ninja

While there I tried dipping my hands into photography and Video. This is my first foray into this area. If you were there, you'll remember.

And nobody was made fun of.... I'll save that for a later post.... ;) The Music "WEST" from the KGB Trio was composed by my brother Brenden.

I'm in the city. I really can't go anywhere or leave for home. But it's slow.

I crave for days like this. I would normally dive into a pit of bees for this kind of day. Really I would. Big nasty stinging bees with bad attitudes. Throw in a few Jersey Mosquitos for good measure.

And now today, I have a day like this. Bee free too.

I don't know what to do with myself.

I tried going online to find a book called "Relaxing for Dummies" and found an article I'd written last year telling other people "How to Relax".

Big lot of help that was. Just don't do anything.

Well in my case, I have plenty of things I want to do. Plenty of things that are completely un work related.

I just don't know where to start.

There are some things I could do today but they require money. So scrap them for the day.

There are some things I could do to the car but it's too hot and yucky outside.

Why I could re-organize the house. But I'm at work.

So what to do?

I've decided I can write. That's fun and enjoyable and not productive at all. Which is perfect. I have a book. I can read. Why not? You can do that without any effort at all.

I'm reading a "StarTrek novel I bought seven months ago hoping to have some time to relax.

I decide to wander into a Canadian Tire. Just because. I meander into the sports area. Tents, stoves. I begin to seriously think about taking a week off. Maybe two. Something I haven't done in almost six years. Perhaps scrape together money and rent a cabin. Never done that before.

I exit the store and sit in the car and look. I see my socket kit spilled all over the ground of the car. I begin to look. I have time.

I can finally go through my car and dig for all those sockets and tools that went hiding under the seat! A search for buried treasure! What fun! And oh look! A long lost Reese's Peanut Butter cup! A beast guarding the treasure! Adventure!

Goodness me! There's a copy of the Toronto Sun with the Sunshine Girl under there! A damsel in distress hiding under the beast!

Who would have thought there could be so much adventure in a little car?

So now I'm in this mood of things I can do that are not work related and I'm enjoying myself! I'm sitting inside a little black car fighting monsters and saving damsels in distress chomping on potato chips and relaxing!

There's not a darn thing the world can do to stop me. I'm muting my phone now. I can feel years of stress dropping into the black pit of despair. Running off like scared daemons. I am a relaxed person. You cannot hurt me.

I sense plans beginning to build before me. A layout of my life building into a new chapter. I can sense myself finding that method to enter the new job I want. I smell Microsoft reaching out to me. The day is getting good ....

*** Brrrrrrrrrinnnnng *** *** Brrrrrrrriiingggggg*** *Brrrrrrrriinnnnnggg*

*DAMN* I forgot to turn off the Cell phone.

"Hello... Yes...MmmmHmmm....Yep.... Yep... Be right there....."

So much for my relaxing day.... :P

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-06-15T19:36:04Z</dcterms:modified>

Famous Quotes from the Field

I'm going to start this off. I realize we all face battles, personal and professional.

What is interesting and amusing is how we deal with it.

I was just chatting with a fellow Influencer tonight (Richard Hagermeyer) who coughed a famous quote or two.

"The Computer Might Beat You at Chess, but you can ALWAYS beat it at KICKBOXING!"

Machine instructions when programming.

plaj: print line and jam
pc: punch card
po:punch operator

Yes, printers have no sense of humor, but they live for blood. So printers are vampires!

Ok, can anybody out there, add to this? There has to be billions of these! Words of Wisdom! Words of Desperation! the BOFH cannot be the only person who's had it up to HERE! So come on, comment, add, spam me, I DON'T CARE! I want to see YOUR wisdom and we'll compile it together. I want to see everybody get their fair share of credit in this if you would like your name posted. Let me know!

Me?

I'll add to the pile in my own silly little nerdy way.

When things get down and out,
and the fires of Hell are their way,
Stand against it all and shout,
"You data is mine, so use PLEASE today!"

(well not really, but it was a fun rhyme!)

C'mon Add, add add ADDDDDD!

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-06-15T19:38:35Z</dcterms:modified>

Windows Home Server - Stand up and get noticed!

It's time to get noticed. Time to put that extra bit of power in your hands.

Windows Home Server.

Finally got a copy installed (Finally got a copy to install with!) and it KICKS ASS!

No, not a wussy little file server.

It's web based remote access.

Full system backup,

It's got SBS 2003 as it's core so you can run DNS / DHCP and IIS!

You can just drop USB drives in and add them to the system, no brain power.

It's coexists with Domain laptops without any configuration!

It does it all! It works with Xbox360!

What can't it do? Well World Peace is the only limitation it seems to have. It's limited to 10 users maximum. But it also makes a nice mini DPM server for your network. Cool eh?

So go buy it. Buy it now. Get that much power in your house and don't look back!

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-06-15T19:38:58Z</dcterms:modified>

Energize IT 2008 - the Battle of Dixon Road

And so the calm before the storm. The early hours of May 24th. A mighty army arrives before the gates of the Metro Toronto Congress Centre.

It is Team Microsoft. Armed with their many influencers, speakers, and presenters; They step out of the trucks.

Ready to start the day.

Only; a glitch.

"What the @#$%@#" spouts out Rick Claus. It's been a long night and he has no time for nonsense. None. Not a single itty bit.

A mob of multicolored, speckled, crinkly, doghouse wearing, gray bearded, blue skirted, sword carrying nastys is blocking their way.

"ANIME'S" Shrieks Rodney Buike. "Christ they're everywhere!"

A panic sets amongst the crowd. How. Just HOW! Were they going to get in! Every square INCH of the area was coated in ANIME'S.

And they were moving and milling about.

Energize IT 2008. It had to start. No force in this world should be there to stop it. But there were MILLIOINS of them. And only a handful of Microsoft Nerds.

The Friday Funny Guy sat there quivering in the back corner giving last rights to everybody. "We'll never make it!" He shouted to the unhelpful gods of spite.

Shuddering throughout the crowd. A solution. A drastically needed solution had to thrown forth.

All eyes were looking to John Oxley and Mark Relph. But there were fresh out of ideas. They'd been pushing forth so hard to get Energize IT 2008 ready, sleep had not been an option.

And suddenly a voice, a voice of freedom. the one Man who had been near Energize IT and actually had some sleep.

In a single shout of power "COOOOOOOOODDE NINJAAAAAAA!!!!!!" shrieked Jean-Luc David as he lept into the frey.

Eyes looked up as he lept into the air with fury and power by some McDonalds treats from India.

Whipping out a pair of Commodore 64's he had scooped on eBay recently; he dived in to tear them down.

Seeing Jean-Luc's bravery the entire team, influencers, speakers, even little guys carrying eggs for the President's breakfast decided the time was now!

"Give me gigabits or give me death!" Shouted out Damir Bersinic to the air whipping out a stack of NFR Media. Spinning them off like Ninja stars to knock the many down.

Peter Piluk and Mitch Garvis grabbed the Friday Funny Guy to use him as a battering ram to clear the way. Knocking many ANIME's to and fro.

Christian Beauclair fired off some remaining bowling pins from a previous night to take down the crowds.

Yelling and screaming of terror from a small gaggle of 'Sailor Moons' as Paul LaBerge wielded a pair of RockBand drumsticks like NunChucks. This worked great until a big fifteen foot tall 'Tuxedo Mask' showed and had him off running and screaming.

A large barrage of PikaChus was holding ground quite well until Cameron McKay let forth a mighty sneeze scrambling them off like a large bag of marbles.

A small pocket of Gokus of Bus were tearing into the defenses held up by WWITPRO and ITPRO Toronto as the batteries from the SBS 2008 powered death-rays were beginning to wear down. It was looking quite bleak at that point until Graham Jones snagged an extension cord booting about the back of the building and ran power. "It's Good! Have at her boys!" Soon the new Cougar powered beam cut into eyes making them scream "Mommy!" one Goku shouted out.

And so the battle wore on, soon the members of Microsoft and their team arrived at the doorway. Victorious. Many hurt and bruised Akira were laying on the ground moaning in pain.

The doors opened for the team. Proud and victorious they march in. Gleaming with victory.

And then the sign

"Welcome all to Anime North 2008"

A sudden pause from the Friday Funny Guy. "Sorry didn't I mention we were supposed to enter at the front door?"

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-06-06T12:07:49Z</dcterms:modified>

Energize IT 2008 - THUNDERGIZED!

Just in case anybody was sleeping in the back, the complete and un-edited Thundergized (opening music from Energize IT 2008)
Were you there and how did it Energize you?
Special thanks for the creation of this Video goes out to Microsoft Canada, especially Rodney Buike and Damir Bersinic for dealing with those massive emails (Sorry about the data plan) and Mitch Garvis who was that quiet voice in the background prodding. Thank you Oh Great and Powerful Garvis! ... :)

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</l
